travel from home: 5 ways to pacify your travel bug without catching a plane.

fellow travel addicts, i know you feel me when i say i’m DYING to get to go somewhere. i would give my life savings to get on a plane and fly off into the sunset.

regardless, we know that staying home is what is best for the earth right now, so i hope you’re making the best of your alone time. maybe try these tips on how to stay healthy at home.

i’ve had to come up with some creative ways to quell my incessant need to travel. i’ve been cooking my favorite meals from my travels, reminiscing over old pictures, and scouting out the dream tip i’m going to take when this is all over. a girl can dream, right?

i’ve collected my 5 top tips to get over the travel bug while you’re at home! hopefully these tips can entertain you while we can’t travel. enjoy!

  1. cook a themed dinner.

    foodies unite! my favorite way to fake travel is to cook an amazing meal inspired by somewhere i love.

    besides the adventure into the unknown, finding amazing vegan food is the top reason i love to travel. food is a direct reflection of a culture and their values. how people treat their food is how they live their lives.

    use that snippet of knowledge to prepare your own meals. where are you getting your produce from? are you cooking with intention, or absentmindedly following the recipe? are you honoring the process of feeding your body with quality ingredients? are you eating in a beautiful space? there are so many factors to consider when you’re making an intentional meal.

    recently i have been loving to make a greek chickpea salad, putting on some music, and sitting out in the sun pretending i’m along the aegean sea. perfection.

    here are some other meal ideas to mentally whisk you away to the other side of the world.

    -tofu souvlaki from everyday vegan food

    -ratatouille from the forked spoon (fun fact: when i’m sad, i like to make ratatouille while watching rataoullie the movie. it instantly cheers me up).

    -vegan nabe, healthy hot pot soup by from the comfort of my bowl

  2. go get lost on map crunch.

    y’all remember map crunch right? it was popular when i was 10, but it has recently resurfaced as a way to digitally travel. map crunch is basically google maps, but you can randomize the location.

    sure, you can just look about, OR you can play the game map crunch is famous for. have it place you in a random location, and you have to find your way to the airport without the use of google. it’s the ultimate test of your foreign navigation skills. beware, this can suck you in for hours!

  3. go watch the sunrise.

    this does actually entail going somewhere, but it doesn’t have to be very far. one morning, wake up and drive to watch the sunrise somewhere that is not your bedroom. it can just be down the block.

    something about getting up before the sun and watching the world wake up sparks my sense of wonder. you can’t not be in awe of the earth when the black fades into pinks and oranges while you watch.

    at the very least, it got you out of bed before noon. ;)

  4. plan your perfect trip.

    alright, this may just feed your travel bug, but planning a trip beginning to end makes it seem more real.

    now is the time to plan that once in a lifetime trip! who knows, maybe you’ll find a good deal with a flexible cancellation policy so you can actually book it. if not, you’ll be ready to press book whenever the time is right, no extra planning necessary.

  5. throw yourself out of your comfort zone.

    being out of my comfort zone is why i love traveling so much. navigating an unknown place, learning a new language, trying new foods, and talking to amazing people is why i constantly seek new places to go.

    you don’t have to travel to be outside of your comfort zone! here a few ideas to get you into that sense of adventure without going too far.

    -try a new restaurant

    -pick up a skill and show it to someone

    -start a conversation with he person in front of you at the grocery

    -learn a language, and find someone to practice with.
